SideQuest — Privacy Policy

The whole policy, in one line

SideQuest collects nothing about you. The one thing that leaves your phone is the App Store's own purchase receipt, to verify what you bought.

No account. The app never asks who you are.
No servers of our own. SideQuest has no backend. The app makes no network requests

of its own for your record; the only network path is a purchase check, through

RevenueCat — see Purchases below.

No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers. No usage statistics, no crash

reporting. One third-party service, RevenueCat, verifies your purchases; see Purchases

below for exactly what it receives and what it never does.

Your record stays on your device. Every quest, note, photograph, voice recording,

and every name you type is stored only on your phone. If you delete the app, that data

is gone; we could not recover it for you because we never had it.

SideQuest asks for a permission only at the moment a feature needs it, and uses it only on

the device:

Camera — to photograph proof of a quest, and the monthly photograph you choose to

keep. Photographs are re-encoded without location data before they are stored.

Microphone — to record a voice note of up to twenty seconds as proof of a quest.
Photo library — to attach a picture you already took.
Speech recognition — to let you search what you said in your own recordings. The

transcription runs on the device; nothing is sent to any server, ours or Apple's

(on-device recognition only).

Say no to any of these and the rest of the app works without it.

Only what you explicitly share, only when you tap share: an exported archive of your own

record, a share card, or a message to a person you chose. Each goes through the system

share sheet to the destination you pick. The app keeps no copy of what you shared and no

record that you shared it.

Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account. SideQuest never sees

your payment method.

Verifying what you bought is handled by RevenueCat, a third-party purchase-verification

service. When you subscribe, buy the lifetime option, or restore a purchase, the App

Store's own receipt and an anonymous identifier for this installation are sent to

RevenueCat so it can confirm what the store says. RevenueCat never receives your quests,

notes, photographs, voice recordings, or anything else you have written or captured — your

record does not leave the phone for this or any other reason. RevenueCat's own privacy

SideQuest is not directed at children and asks for no personal information from anyone.

If a future version of the app ever changes any of the above, this policy will change

before the app does, and the change will be dated.
